John Peter Siletto

“Farmer John”

A second-generation San Benito County winegrower, John Siletto (aka Farmer John), is the guiding force behind Siletto Family Vineyards. Raised by the venerable, Ron Siletto of Almaden Vineyard fame, John builds upon the bold vision his father first set out to do when he fell in love with the San Benito region.

Under Ron’s tutelage, John became enamored by the versatility of the region’s potential for esoteric varieties in addition to traditional variety selections. As Ron amassed 6 different vineyard sites, some dating back to 1964 in vine age, John quickly learned about terroir at an early age. While Ron was fully immersed in the wine business, John went on to an illustrious career at Driscoll’s leading supply and nursery for 25 years. John returned in 2019 to help his aging father and took over leadership of the business upon Ron’s passing in 2020.

Owner

JoE Siletto

As the younger brother, Joe supports John’s vision of providing distinct grapes of outstanding quality for our winemakers. Joe’s early exposure to the family business was working in the fields in the summer between his freshman and sophomore year in college and since then has had a strong appreciation for the challenges, rewards and honest, hard work that goes into the vineyards.

Joe’s background is in the world of healthcare where he has spent the past 25 years focused on investing in companies and working with physicians to bring products to market with an emphasis on improving patients lives. As a result of his experience, Joe spends most of his time on the financial and strategic elements of the family business but also loves interacting with the great winemakers who bring the family’s grapes to life.

Raised on the East Coast, Joe graduated from Duke University but came West to be closer to John and Dad and received an MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. In between he took 3 years to live in China where he studied Mandarin at the Beijing Language Institute and later worked at a Chinese joint venture in the mobile telecom industry.

Outside of work, Joe spends as much time as he can with his lovely wife Gretchen and their children. His favorite grape is Falanghina, a grape that Dad first planted as a gift to Gretchen!
